Polymer Modified Asphalt

Polymer Modified Asphalt Cement (PMA) is an improved version of Asphalt Cement produced by adding either natural polymer (such as natural latex) or synthetic polymer (such as SBS or EVA) together with an additive. PMA will provide better strength and durability of road surface than Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), due to:

  • High resistance to wear
  • High resistance to rutting
  • High elastic recovery at lower/higher temperature
  • High cohesion or less reveling
  • High resistance to stripping

Applications

  • Asphalt Concrete or Hot-Mixed Asphalt (HMA)
  • Porous Asphalt Concrete
  • Ultra Thin Friction Course (UTFC)
  • Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA)
  • Stress Absorbing Membrane Interlayer (SAMI)

Recommendations

  • Avoid working or storing near any source of flame or excess heat.
  • Temperature in storage tanks should not exceed 180°C as the quality may be affected.
  • Sample containers should be dry and clean, not contaminated with oil or solder flux.
  • Storage containers should be kept separately and the contents are clearly identified.
  • Wear proper protective clothing to protect burning. Gloves and goggles should be used.

Jet Fuel Resistant Modified Asphalt (Bitumak) is a special Modified Asphalt used for road surfaces that need to be resistant to fuel and chemical spillages.

Applications

  • Asphalt concrete to resistant to jet fuel.

Suitable for areas

Susceptible to fuel and chemical spillages, for example:

  • Airports
  • Gas Stations
  • Car Parks
  • Warehouses
