Kemaman Bitumen Company is one of south-east Asia’s premier Asphalt producers, meeting the demand for various grades of Asphalt within and outside Malaysia. The company was conceived with the strategic objective of setting up a world class refinery focused on producing over 1 million tons of high quality Asphalt every year. Presently, the refinery has completed a debottlenecking project to process 30 thousand barrels of crude oil every day and is already supplying Asphalt to customers within Malaysia as well as Thailand, China, Indonesia, Cambodia, Australia and many more markets. Our aim is to be the most reliable partner for infrastructure development programs in the countries that we serve and be a leading player in the Asphalt market on the strength of our partnership with our customers.
While the western economies continue their efforts to spur economic recovery in that part of the world, Asia still remains the continent that is witnessing relatively stronger economic activity. This has made the focus on the Asian countries much stronger and sharper than before and business is naturally gravitating towards markets where it sees opportunity to grow. At the same time, Governments in most Asian countries are rolling out ambitious plans for infrastructure development to support the anticipated increase in business activities. KBC is ideally placed to take advantage of this strong Asian focus and the enhanced level of infrastructural growth.
Closer to home, the 11th Plan in Malaysia clearly identifies the need for strengthening infrastructure to support economic expansion and envisages considerable development funding, especially in the infrastructure construction sector. Supporting Continuous Economic Growth
Our company objectives are tied to economic growth in the region, as well as the local area. Towards this end, KBC will require human resources and support from the local services industry, such as maintenance services, security and safety surveillance services, and land-transport services. These services will be offered to local and capable companies, especially Bumiputra companies.
Improving National Production Capacity and Competitiveness
Together with the national oil company, the total local Asphalt production capacity now exceeds 1.5 million tons per annum. This is more than twice the local Asphalt demand and with KBC’s supply envelope spreading across many regional countries, it has put “Kemaman” on the map as a quality Asphalt brand and a leading supplier in this region.
Promoting Technology and Human Capital Development
KBC will further improve in refining and Asphalt technology as we have strategic partners with vast international experience and technological know-how in Asphalt as well as its applications in road and airport construction. As KBC grows into a major player in the local Asphalt market, we will train more local talent and develop new applications and techniques for the Malaysian market.
KBC will continue on this journey with operational safety as top priority, whilst maintaining a coherent growth policy that will enable us to leverage on and maximize the utilization of our resource capabilities and assets.
